No Surrender
by
Don Stivers

While others
would surrender Fort Donelson on February 16, 1862, for Nathan Bedford Forrest there was no other option: "I did not come here for the purpose of surrendering my command". Resolving to cut his way out or die trying, he led his men out of the fort to fight another day.
