the command of Lt. Chard, Royal Engineers, ably assisted by Lt. Bromhead,
in repelling the furious attack of the Zulu regiments vastly superior
numbers (22/23 January 1879). More Victoria Crosses were awarded ( 10)
for this battle than for any other single engagement in British History
