The Desperate Hours
by

All saw quiet along the American forward postion held by the 1st Battalion, 112th Regiment, 28th Division just inside Germany on the Our River. On December 16th 1944, German shells arched overhead as the final German Offensive on the Western Front began. In what became known as the 'Battle of the Bulge' By December 17th SSgt L. Frank Olson found his platoon cutoff and surrounded by the massive German onslaught. Cutoff from communications, SSgt Olson followed his last orders received...."Hold at All Costs". Olson and his men held on for another day and a half, buying precious time for the U.S. Army to move the 82nd Airborne near St. Vith. SSgt Olson and the remainder of his men were eventually captured.
