First Pass, Defenders over Washington
by
Rick Herter
Captain Dean Eckmann of the 119th FW, North Dakota Air National Guard, makes his first pass over the Pentagon, Sept 11th, 2001. Scrambled from Langley AFB, VA, Capt Eckmann led a flight of three fully armed F-16s in providing the first combat air patrol (CAP) over the nation's capital in history. In this dramatic portrayal, Capt Eckmann is seen making his initial low level high speed pass over the Pentagon. It has been said that many Pentagon Employees actually cheered upon seeing 'one of our Own" was now protecting the skies over the nations Capital.
Each of these prints is signed by the artist, Capt. Dean Eckmann, and wingmen Maj. Brad Derrig and Capt Craig Borgstrom.
