by
Kostas Kavvadias

2 P-47D-30's of 65th Fighter Sqdn, 57th Fighter Group, fly a bombing and straffing mission in northern Italy in the Spring of 1945. Based out of the Grosseto Air base, these aircraft continued their mission of support to Allied ground personnel right to the end of the war. The lead aircraft is “Hun Hunter XVI” flown by Lt Col Gil Wymond, the man most credited with the development of the P-47 as a potent ground attack aircraft in the Mediterranean theater.
